Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader KT Rama Rao on Tuesday said disrespecting leaders of the country was the “very definition and the core DNA of Congress". Rao’s statement came in the backdrop of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi’s visit to Vietnam to ring in the New Year while the country is mourning the demise of former Prime Minister Manmohan Singh.
The BRS leader also said he was “surprised" at the naivete of those who were surprised by Gandhi’s trip.

Hours later, Congress MP Manickam Tagore responded to Rao, alleging that his post was a “classic BJP IT cell playbook".
Tagore also claimed Rao echoes the Bharatiya Janata Party’s narrative to escape the Enforcement Directorate (ED).
“Classic BJP IT cell playbook: spreading lies and manufacturing fake outrage," Tagore quoted Rao’s post and wrote.
“Some seem to echo their narrative just to dodge the ED. Enjoy your New Year bash with Tollywood pals!" he added.

On Monday, the BJP launched a scathing attack on the Congress and alleged that Rahul Gandhi “exploited" former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh’s death for his “expedient politics" and flew to Vietnam to ring in the New Year while the country is mourning his demise.
Reacting sharply, Manickam Tagore wrote in a post on X, “When will the Sanghis stop this ‘take diversion’ politics?" He alleged that the way Prime Minister Narendra Modi denied Dr Singh a place for cremation on the Yamuna banks and his ministers cornered his family was “shameful".
“If Gandhi travels privately, why does it bother you?" he asked Malviya and said “Get well in New year".
Earlier on Monday, KTR urged the state government to persuade the Central government to establish a memorial for former Prime Minister PV Narasimha Rao in the national capital.
This came after the Telangana Assembly passed a resolution seeking the Bharat Ratna for late former Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh.
“While welcoming & endorsing the Telangana Govt resolution to honour Late Prime Minister Sri Manmohan Singh Ji with Bharat Ratna in Assembly today, I have also proposed that Former PM & son of Telangana Sri PV Narasimha Rao Garu also be given due respect & recognition," Rao wrote in an X post.
“PV Garu is the only Prime Minister who does not have the honour of a memorial in National Capital, New Delhi."
“We demand that the state Govt come forward and move a resolution requesting the same in the state assembly & also hope that the Union Govt will accept the same," he added.

Speaking to reporters, Rao said, “Dr Manmohan Singh was a great economist and is respected across party lines. Our party supported the resolution passed in the Assembly today. We also appreciate the government’s move to install a statue of Dr Singh here. However, we remind the Congress government in Telangana that the only Prime Minister who served India honourably and brought in significant reforms was PV Narasimha Rao."
“Unfortunately, he is the only late Prime Minister who does not have a memorial in the national capital. We have demanded that the state government also pass a resolution in the Assembly to honour PV Narasimha Rao and urge the Union government to set up a memorial for him."
