Teens shine as Mt Pleasant beat Vere in JPL
KINGSTON, Jamaica— Three teenagers Miguel Josephs, Rashawn Williams and Franco Celestin scored, as Mt Pleasant FA beat Vere United 3-0 in their third round Jamaica Premier League game at Wembley Centre of Excellence on Wednesday.
Two 15 year olds, Joseph, the Haitian Under – 17 captain and Rashawn Williams, repaid the confidence of head coach Theodore Whitmore who handing them their first starts, while 17-year-old Haitian national Celestin, also scored after coming off the bench in the second half.
Portmore United also snapped a two-game win-less run with a 1-0 win over Molynes United, while Racing United and Harbour View ended 0-0.
Josephs opened the scoring in the 24th minute to give Mt Pleasant FA the lead before Williams added a second in the 32nd minute, while Celestin, who replaced Alex Marshall at the start of the second half, scored his third goal of the season in the 86th minute.
Shacquwell Henry came off the bench to score in the 52nd minute for Portmore United as they moved to 57 points in fourth place.
Racing United failed in their attempt to move back into the top six after they were held 0-0 by Harbour View, but moved up a spot to seventh place on goal-difference ahead of Waterhouse FC, both on 45 points.
