Harrison Ford to help hype Star Wars theme park attractions during Disney special

In case you haven’t heard, Star Wars is getting its very own, 14-acre swath of both Disneyland and Walt Disney World. The theme parks are currently under construction, but according to Variety, Harrison Ford himself will tease some of the upcoming attractions during The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60, a two-hour TV special airing Sunday, February 21, at 8 p.m. on ABC.

Back in August, Disney CEO Bob Iger described the future Star Wars worlds thusly: “We are creating a jaw-dropping new world that represents our largest single-themed land expansion ever.” Iger also teased two big attractions, one that would drop park-goers into “a climactic battle between the First Order and the Resistance” and another that would allow fans to pilot the Millennium Falcon “on a customized secret mission.”

Here’s hoping that Ford gives us a closer look at the latter during this spot, and for those anxiously awaiting the completion of the Star Wars-themed stretches of Disneyland and Disney World, this should be a fun little sneak peak into their development.

Once they’re up and running, you can bet they’ll be a hot commodity and — while the franchise isn’t exactly hurting for sources of revenue — these parks could create yet another cash cow to add to Disney and Lucasfilm’s ever-expanding herd.

For the time being, their opening date is TBA, but we’ll keep you updated as more information becomes available.

The Wonderful World of Disney: Disneyland 60 will be hosted by Dancing with the Stars winner Derek Hough, and will include Elton John, Josh Gad, and Hough’s DWTS co-star Witney Carson. Hough and Carson will perform a Disney-themed dance routine, while John will debut a new song called Wonderful Crazy Night and will also perform Circle of Life from The Lion King.

Disney shifts release dates for Marvel movies, Star Wars films, and Avatar sequels
Wade with his hands over his mouth

The writers' strike has lasted about one-and-a-half months so far, and it doesn't appear to be ending anytime soon. And now, Disney is making some major schedule changes to almost all of its upcoming franchise films. Avatar fans are going to feel it the most. Avatar 3 has been pushed back a year from December 2024 to December 19, 2025. The other sequels, Avatar 4 and Avatar 5, have been delayed to December 21, 2029, and December 19, 2031, respectively. That's a three-year delay for both titles from their previous release dates.

Marvel's 2024 slate is also getting a big shake-up, with Captain America: Brave New World moving away from its summer opening slot on May 3, 2024, to July 26, 2024. The Thunderbolts movie is shifting from July 26, 2024, to December 20, 2024, the former release date for Avatar 3. That will make it only the second MCU movie to be released in December after Spider-Man: No Way Home.

Darth Vader vs. Kylo Ren: which one is the better Star Wars villain?
A split image of Darth Vader and Kylo Ren in Star Wars movies.

Star Wars eras are defined as much by their villains as by their heroes. While Emperor Sheev Palpatine is the overarching evil mastermind behind the entire Skywalker Saga, he’s never truly been the face of the franchise. That honor falls to the grim reaper of the galaxy, Darth Vader. His intimidating stature (provided by bodybuilder David Prowse), booming voice (courtesy of James Earl Jones), and menacing helmet (designed by Ralph McQuarrie and sculpted by Brian Muir) have made him an immortal pop culture icon.
But what about his successor from the Star Wars Sequel Trilogy, Kylo Ren (Adam Driver)? Positioned as the new hotness among merciless enforcers of space fascism, it seems the man once called Ben Solo never really got his due as a top-shelf villain in cinema’s most inescapable franchise. With the Skywalker Saga now years in our rearview, it’s time to reevaluate the question: Who is the better character, Darth Vader or Kylo Ren?

Darth Vader is unquestionably cooler than Kylo Ren

Why Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s Cal Kestis needs his own Disney+ show

As Lucasfilm finally seems to be getting the ball rolling again for Star Wars on the theatrical front, the video game space has been showing the franchise's continued narrative strength. The latest example is Respawn Entertainment's Star Wars Jedi: Survivor. The sequel to 2019's successful Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order fleshes out the journey of Cal Kestis (voiced by Gotham and Shameless actor Cameron Monaghan), with his story feeling every bit as worthy of a live-action series.

Shows like Dave Filoni's Ahsoka look promising given Rosario Dawson's pitch-perfect performance in season 2 of The Mandalorian and Filoni's passion for the franchise. Should Lucasfilm want more Jedi-centric storytelling on Disney+, the Star Wars Jedi games have rich characters (all hail Turgle!) and intriguing storylines that could be an ideal fit for the episodic format that made Obi-Wan Kenobi and Andor so compelling.
